Proving that the Philippines are now ready to battle it out against the best in Asia, United City Football Club will be having a very tough test after the AFC Champions League 2021 determined who they will be facing in the said competition.
In their maiden season in Asia’s most prestigious club football competition, United City FC faces Kawasaki Frontale from Japan, Guangzhou Evergrande, and the winners between Daegu FC and Chiang Rai United.
With the AFC Cup All-time league scorer record under his belt, Bienvenido “El Gobernador” Marañon looks all set to face the best of the best in all Asia.
“I’m happy to play against these kinds of teams because it’s a great experience to learn and improve,” said Marañon. He also said, “Facing them will allow us to know what is the level of football in Asia and it will make us think about how we have to do to reach that level in the future.”
With clubs being pretty much experienced in Asia’s top-flight club competitions, UCFC will have a mountain to climb to prove that they are now one of the big boys in the continent.
Not only they will come in as newcomers in the said tournament, but expectations will also be huge for Marañon as he’s coming in off a fantastic feat in Asia’s version of the Europa League.
When asked about this, he simply shrugged off the pressure by saying, “Not pressured. I will take it as always, as a great opportunity to learn to be a better player after that. Of course, I will try to score goals to help the team, and that why I’m working a lot to prepare myself for the games.”
“We need to be prepared mentally and physically for the games and we will do it. Then in the pitch, anything can happen.”
