February 9, 2020 – The 7’s Football League concluded its first alumni 48+ division with a tightly contested match between the CSA Vets going up against UP. With the score tied at 1-1 after extra time, CSA nailed the penalty kick that brought them the championship.
Winning the championship took some hard work as CSA Vets team manager Peps Avecilla described how the team was formed and bringing back the team chemistry after decades took some sacrifices.
“I organized a team last year. We were champions in high school and now, at 48-up, we are champions again,” said Avecilla after winning the 48+ tournament. “We won a couple of tournaments back. We won second, third and third and this time, we captured the big one. We got the number one here at the Philam 7s.”
Joining the Philam 7s Football League gave the CSA Vets a time to rekindle their bond throughout the years.
“We created a page of alumni vets and we started organizing and people kept joining. We even have people sending old photos,” recalls Avecilla on how the team was formed.
“We recalled that when we started the tournament, we wore our high school designed uniform and we would like to thank our sponsor Azzurri FC and Homegrown Guyabano Tea. Without them and without my teammates — they are a great bunch of guys, we made it. We got number one!”
Getting their first championship as a reunited football club, the CSA Vets vowed to come back and defend the title and hopes to capture more trophies.
“CSA will be back and will be back for more. High school team once again, 48 and up — still a possibility.”
